Biggin Hill will trek south to Awapuni to race on Saturday in the R85 1200m. He has drawn 6 of 10 runners and will be ridden by Jonathon Parkes who has ridden him once previously for a good 2nd at Ellerslie this time last year. He looks well placed in the race with any forecast rain being of no concern.
Cartell and Selfie will run at Ellerslie. Cartell will start in the Open 1200m, Zinjete Moki will ride and he will start from barrier 1. Although stepping up to open class he will appreciate the big weight drop from the 60kgs he has carried of late in R85 company. He is very honest and has won on dead/slow tracks if the forecast rain arrives.
Selfie will start in the 3yo 1500m. After a below par performance last start he will have the blinkers back on. With Alysha suspended Derek Nolan will take the ride, Derek won on him at his first start as a 2 year old. He is an unknown quantity at the distance.
Swissta (Swiss Ace –Sacrista) was to run in the 2yo 1200m race at Ellerslie however the nominations were super strong and he was withdrawn. He will now make his debut at Tauranga on Saturday 16th over 1200m.
Fast Learner was never comfortable on the slow 7 track at Ellerslie last Saturday finishing a creditable 7th. He appears to have taken no harm from the run and will head to Wellington on Saturday 16th to race in the G3 Tui Anniversary handicap over 1600m.
Cinematic looked much better racing in blinkers at Ruakaka on Tuesday finishing a good 2nd. She has pulled up well from the race. Primrose Hill didn’t get the best of runs in her first start over 2100m, finishing 7th, 3 lengths from the winner. She deserves another chance and may run next over the same distance at Te Rapa on 20th January.
Untamed Diamond has trained on well this week. She will head next to Wellington on Saturday 23rd for the 3yo 1200m.
Our 2 year olds, Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay, Cape Blanco – Beauty Queen, Swiss Ace –Princess Carolina & Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess geldings have had barrier practice this week. Irish Missile has had another week of pace work.
Queen of Cool, Alamosa – Pinot Grieve filly, Florence Hill have resumed training this week. All three are in excellent condition after lengthy spells.
In Australia Hot Mustard will look to take advantage of the continuing wet weather in Sydney and could line up at either Nowra on Monday or Canterbury next Wednesday. He relishes wet tracks.

On a sad note we have had to retire two of our long time stable favourites this week, Bellino & So Wotif both with reoccurring injuries.
Bellino (Bertolini – Bella Bambina) finished his career with 7 wins and 22 placings ($120,625.00) from 48 starts. His wins came over 1600m -2200m and although he didn’t win any stakes races his big group of owners have had a lot of fun with him over the past six seasons.

So Wotif (Iffraaj – Electricity) had limited starts over the past few years being plagued with foot issues throughout his career. He raced only 18 times for 4 wins and 9 placings ($111,830.00) His best win was the G3 Mr Tiz Trophy at Ellerslie over 1200m. He also raced twice in Australia for 2 placings at Caulfield and Flemington which was a thrill for his owner Arthur Avis.
