A quiet weekend ahead for the Collett Team with no runners here in New Zealand. Our sole representative will be Hot Mustard in Australia, who is looking for a hat trick of wins this Sunday at the Sapphire Coast meeting after winning easily at Nowra last weekend over 2200m. He will start in the Sapphire Coast Cup, a R70 2200m race with James Innes Jr on board. With only 5 runners he again looks a good chance.
Biggin Hill showed his fighting qualities at Matamata last Saturday running a very good 2nd, only narrowly beaten by a head. He was ridden well by Zinjete Moki, appreciating the 3kg claim and the gear change to a shadow roll. Cartell had no favours being caught wide from his awkward draw in a very fast run 1.08.89 race, he finished 8th. He may also have been feeling the very firm track conditions. Both horses may start next at Ellerslie on 20th January over 1200m.

Irish Missile won her 600m trial at Avondale on Tuesday in a slick time of 34.79 for Alysha Collett. She has shown plenty of promise on the training track and is not far off making her race day debut. Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess finished well back in his 800m trial and has now gone for a spell.
Fast Learner & Untamed Diamond are ticking over quietly after their trips to Wellington. Queen of Cool, Alamosa – Pinot Grieve filly, Florence Hill, Savabeel – Shantaine filly & Testa Rossa – Taunt Pauline gelding continue with steady pace work.
Ventura, City Boy, Dark Secret and Japhite have worked along quietly again this week. Cinematic is back at the track this week after a week of box rest.
Selfie will be on the side lines for a few months after an xray this week revealed a knee chip, although very disappointing it helps to explain his past two lack lustre performances. We are confident that with the chip removed and time to recover he will be back to his best.
Les Silk resumed training this week after a long layoff. She has bloomed in condition in her time away from the track. Son Taari has also resumed in good order.
Currently Spelling – Arctic Breeze, Red Giant – She’s a Tomboy, Cape Blanco – Beauty Queen, Swissta, Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay, Swiss Ace – Princess Carolina, Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess geldings & Selfie.
