Pukekohe Park Racing Awards were held last night at Counties Racing Club. With 19 wins (from 190 runners) and prizemoney of $589,950.00 for the season, our stable took out the Trainer of the Year award. It is our 29th season of training at Pukekohe and in that time we have won over 600 races.

Shandream won the Sprinter of the Year award.  She is by Pins out of Pyjamas and was originally raced by Gerald and Bruce Shand. In 2014 she was bought by Little Avondale Stud as a racing/breeding proposition, they raced her in her last season and she is now in foal to Savabeel. She raced 41 times for 8 wins and 23 placings.

One of our long time employees, Annette Ruddell was a popular winner of the Stablehand of the Year award. Annette has worked for our stable part time, mainly afternoons and weekends for a number of years. She also trains a small team with her husband John including Malbec.

With trials and races being called off earlier this week we took a team of horses to Paeroa on Thursday to gallop on their course proper.  Fast Learner, Bellino, Coachline, Untamed Diamond, Selfie, Lady Royale and Ventura all worked well on the heavy track and have benefitted from the gallop & trip away.  Fast Learner, Selfie, Bellino and Coachline may kick off their campaigns at Ruakaka on the 12th.

Ventura will head to Avondale on Saturday 19th over 1600m.  Blue Pool Blur has been freshened up and will also start at Avondale over 1600m. Queen of Cool ran a nice race over 1200m at Ruakaka last Saturday to finish 4th only 1.7 lengths from the winner. She will race next at Rotorua on Sunday 13th over 1200m in preparation for the 3yo Bonecrusher Stakes at Ellerslie on Saturday 26th over 1400m.

Shanzou ran a much improved race on the dead surface at Ruakaka finishing 4th. His owners have now decided to lease him to the South Island and he will do his future racing there.

Raadical Jazz found the 1200m a little too sharp and wasn’t entirely suited by the slow track conditions at Hastings. He has had an easy week and will wait for better track conditions. So Wotif will be freshened up after his run at Hastings.

Cartell is due a gallop on Saturday he has improved immensely with a change to his shoeing. Perfectly Ready – Cataari gelding has looked good working at ¾ speed this week, he will have another hit out at ¾ speed this Saturday.  City Boy will gallop on Saturday, he continues to do well.

El Escolta was to have raced at Te Rapa next Wednesday however if the track there is heavy he may wait until track conditions are better.

Biggin Hill, Mills N Boon, Primrose Hill, Artic Breeze, Sahkees Secret – Sister City gelding are ticking over quietly. They are all doing well, getting through plenty of conditioning work.

Cinematic will head to Cambridge for a stint on the water walker to freshen up and keep up her fitness levels. She is being taken along slowly after a tendon injury last autumn.

Shantav is heading to the South Island along with Shanzou to do his future racing.

Red Giant – Regal Symphony filly has resumed training this week. She has grown and filled out during her spell with her owners Bruce & Raelyn Wallbank.
