Winter racing is now upon us and the tracks have deteriorated accordingly, some tracks especially in the Waikato to a level that is very testing on horses. With this in mind I am prepared to wait and place horses where they will get better footing and track conditions.
He’s A Bigdeel and Our Kismet both ran creditable races at Ellerslie last Saturday given the atrocious weather and track conditions. He’s A Bigdeel was not quite conditioned enough to run out the race on such a heavy track first up from a spell and did well to finish 6th. He has come through the race well and may race next at Ruakaka Saturday 13th June over 1600m.
Our Kismet drew barrier 1, she dropped out from the barrier and was last on the turn but made up good ground in the straight to finish 4th. She too has taken no harm from the race. There are a few options coming up for her over 1600m either Te Rapa, Te Teko or Ruakaka look possibilities.
Track conditions at Te Aroha on Wednesday were not much better, being very deep and holding.
Raadical Jazz raced over 1600m and looked like he would win half way up the straight however he just ran out of steam over the final 200m and held on to finish 3rd.
Jesshanimo found the track too testing at Te Aroha and finished back in the field. We are struggling to find a suitable race for him coming up, he may head to Ruakaka Saturday 13th over 1600m.
Primrose Hill also struggled on the testing ground. She will now be put aside for 4 weeks and aim for the spring.
The Hawk was in need of his race over 1400m at Te Aroha, he has come through the race in good order and will head to Avondale on 10th June over 1600m.
Bachelor Brave has been getting through plenty of work on the track this week including schooling over hurdles. He could race at Te Rapa Saturday 6th over 2100m.
Coachline has freshened up nicely, he is working towards a 2100m race at Ruakaka Saturday 13th.
Biggin Hill is as bright as ever after his win at Ruakaka, he has had an easy week and will head back to the same venue on Saturday 13th again over 1200m.
Proud Life may race next Saturday 6th at Te Rapa over 2100m.
Chaprise continues to get through good work. She will be nominated for Matamata on Wednesday 3rd June over 1400m, if the track there is heavy or worse we may wait for a better track for her.
Blue Pool Blur faces the same issue and may wait to make his debut.
Les Silk has been getting through plenty of ground work. Providing she is forward enough she may resume racing at Ruakaka on Saturday 13th over 1200m, if not she may trial prior to racing.
Queen of Cool will have a grass jump out tomorrow at the track, providing she comes through that well she will race at Avondale on 10th June over 800m.
So Wotif, Ventura, Suad and Shantav all need to be fitter to resume racing and will wait for another suitable trial venue.
Mills n Boon continues to tick over quietly with her work, she is on track to race again over 1400m at Avondale on the 10th.
City Boy & El Escolta have worked at ¾ speed twice this week and will gallop this Saturday. They are both progressing well to this stage.
Perfectly Ready – Cataari is also getting through plenty of ground work at the track this week. He is starting to tone up nicely.
Cartell & Fast Learner are both ticking over with slow work at the track.
Selfie, Untamed Diamond & Cinematic resumed at the track this week. They are all in good condition.
We have a newcomer to our stables this week, a 2yo filly by Red Giant out of Regal Symphony. She is owned locally by Bruce Wallbank.
Another newcomer to the stable this week was Gerry O’Reilly, owned by Gerald Shand he has been racing previously in the South Island.
