25TH SEPTEMBER 2015

Ventura ran another good race to finish 2nd at Avondale last Saturday. The reduction in race distance from 1600m to 1400m probably didn’t help her chances as she was finishing the race off strongly, although you couldn’t take anything away from the winner Promises, who came from well back to win the race. Ventura may head to the Central Districts to race next over 1600m.

Queen of Cool jumped well and raced up on the pace in her 1200m race, she then just battled in the straight to finish 7th however she has had some soreness issues following her race so could be excused for the poor run. Blue Pool Blur got well back in his race and made up steady ground to run 6th, he too would have benefitted from the 1600m rather than 1400m distance.

City Boy had a weekend away to Hastings following the abandonment of the meeting after just three races. Apart from a hit to his owner’s pocket, the horse has come to no harm from the trip away and has other race options coming up this next week either at Te Rapa or back at Hastings. You do however have to feel for the connections of the Group horses who have now had their spring plans thrown into disarray from a situation that should never have happened.

On a side note his dam Mary Agnes (by Zabeel) has foaled a filly by Rip Van Winkle this week. A little ‘sister’ to City Boy.

Coachline galloped well with Bellino on Wednesday. Coachline may race either at Hastings or Waipa next weekend over 1600m.  Bellino will trial at Avondale on Tuesday 29th to improve his fitness level before racing again. So Wotif will also trial at Avondale prior to racing.

El Escolta & Raadical Jazz will both race at Ruakaka on Wednesday 30th. Both horses worked to the line in their gallops on Wednesday and will hopefully strike better track conditions at Ruakaka than they have previously.

Selfie had an easy gallop on Wednesday and will gallop again on Saturday, he continues to do well.

Chaprise & Untamed Diamond galloped nicely together on Wednesday. Untamed Diamond will race at Te Rapa on Friday 2nd over 1200m. Chaprise will trial on Tuesday at Avondale before resuming racing mid October.
Mills n Boon & Primrose Hill have had their work stepped up further this week and are also looking to resume racing mid October. Biggin Hill is ticking over with pace work.

Perfectly Ready – Cataari gelding had a jump out through the race day gates on Thursday, he was a little slow out but once given a squeeze he accelerated nicely. He may trial at Avondale on Tuesday.

Sahkees Secret – Sister City gelding & Artic Breeze are both due to have a jump out shortly and trial mid October. Red Giant – Regal Symphony filly has pace worked steadily. She is settling into her work nicely.

Fast Learner is back on track this week, he is a little behind in his schedule to resume racing with the ease up in his work due to a pulled muscle. Cartell had a bout of colic last Saturday and as a consequence has had an easy week.

In Australia, Hot Mustard knocked a knee following his last race at Kembla Grange. It required treatment and he is having a 2-3 week let up to recover and freshen up.

Two year olds –

Irish Missile (Smart Missile – Miss Shamrock) again showed speed in her work out on Thursday morning.

Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay gelding looked good in another sprint up this week. He will now have a brief let up.

Savabeel – Shantaine filly worked nicely outside the Keeper – Mondue filly in a 500m workout on Wednesday. Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess Gelding and Alamosa – Pinot Grieve filly also worked along over 500m.

Swiss Ace- Sacrista & Swiss Ace- Princess Caroline geldings, Choisir – Folk Music filly & Florence Hill resumed training on Monday. All four have grown up and filled out into nice individuals.

Currently Spelling –     Cinematic
