Hot Mustard added to our string of winners for the new season with a nice win at Hawkesbury last Thursday. Carrying his carded weight of 61kgs, Jason had him positioned nicely just off the pace and he won easily in the end, albeit the margin being only .8 length. It was an especially good effort considering he was fresh up after an 11 week break over the 2100m journey.
Now a 7 year old, Hot Mustard (Lucky Owners – Fashion Society) has spent the majority of his racing career in Sydney and has been most consistent for his quartet of owners, Leigh Crockford, Barry Colman, Talbot Munro and Richard with 5 wins and 11 placing's from 38 starts.
Untamed Diamond worked well on Saturday morning and has freshened up nicely for her next assignment at Warwick Farm on 3rd October over 1000m. Our Ventura is back full working after a foot abscess had her on the side lines for 10 days, she won’t be seen on race day until early October.
City Boy looked home in the R85 1200m at Counties last Sunday. He was ridden a treat by Alysha but was just pipped on the post going down by a long head on the line. He is a model of consistency and should be very competitive when he lines up next at either Te Rapa on Friday 30th or Hawkes Bay on Saturday 1st.
Cinematic, Japhite, Swissta, Florence Hill, Shangold & Moki all turned in nice trials at Avondale last week, considering none were pushed hard to the line on the slow 9 track. Swissta, Japhite, Shangold & Florence Hill could head back to Avondale to race in a fortnight while Cinematic may resume at Rotorua on 15th October. Irish Missile also trialled and was disappointing, she will have an easy week getting over some minor soreness.
Cartell & Biggin Hill galloped together during the week. Biggin Hill will be seen next in the Lion Red Plate at Rotorua on 15th October, while Cartell will head to Matamata on 8th October over 1200m.
Fast Learner has galloped boldly over the past week and is due a jump out on Thursday. He is not far off a trial. Swiss Ace – Vibe will also head to the jump outs on Thursday.
Dark Secret and Top Prospect worked along at ¾ speed on Saturday. Son Taari is back on track after some muscle issues, Lady Henrietta is due to have her work stepped up this week. Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess, Red Giant – She’s A Tomboy & Guillotine – Mary Agnes have pace worked.
