Selfie came very close to making a winning return to the races in the Tavistock Northland Breeders Stakes at Ruakaka last Saturday. He settled back in the field, then aided by a confident ride from Alysha Collett ran home strongly to only be beaten a nose by The Justice League who had led from the barrier. He appears to have pulled up from the race in good order and will work towards a start in the Hawkes Bay Guineas over 1400m on the 3rd October.

Coachline ran home nicely in his 1400m race at Ruakaka to finish 6th only 1.9 lengths from the winner. Bellino finished well back in the same race. Both horses will benefit from the run and will start next at Waipa over 1580m on the 4th October.

City Boy will travel to Hawkes Bay tomorrow and looks well placed in the Special Conditions Maiden over 1300m at Hastings on Saturday. He has drawn well at barrier 3 and will be ridden by Opie Bosson who rode him to win his debut at Taupo.

Ventura, Blue Pool Blur & Queen of Cool will fly the stable flag at Avondale. All three have trained on well from their previous starts and shouldn’t be bothered by track conditions should the forecast rain arrive. Alysha Collett will take the ride on all three.

Lady Royale has not quite come up this time in and the decision has been made to retire her to stud. She raced 12 times for 2 wins and 4 placings for her owner Arthur Avis. Her second win came in the Group 2 Matamata Breeders Stakes. She is by Captain Rio out of Cackles and given her looks and record she has the makings of a lovely broodmare. She has been purchased by a NZ breeder and will be served by Hallowed Crown this season.

With some changes to his gear, Perfectly Ready – Cataari worked well alongside Cartell earlier in the week, he will have a jump out next Thursday.

Biggin Hill & Chaprise continue to gallop well, both are not far off being back at the races.

When can we expect to see Fast Learner back on the track after his injury?
