Our runners at Ruakaka will appreciate the better conditions with the track coming up a dead 4 for tomorrow. Dark Secret lines up in the maiden 1400m, he has drawn wide at barrier 15 but we would expect his form to improve on the firmer track.
Cartell has drawn nicely at barrier 2 in the open 1200m. He has had a lengthy break since his previous run having been plagued with reoccurring foot issues. His fresh up record is excellent though and he very rarely runs a bad race. Biggin Hill has drawn wide in the same race, he is very consistent and his record at Ruakaka is good.
City Boy gets his chance in the R65 1200m He has drawn a little wide also however he has shown plenty of promise and his first up run for 3rd on a heavy track was excellent.
Son Taari continues to enjoy his work on the wet tracks. He will race at Avondale on Wednesday over 1600m. Selfie has completed six weeks back in the stable and looks in good order, he is due to have his work stepped up shortly.
Irish Missile, Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay and Testa Rossa – Taunt Pauline have settled back into their track work nicely this week. Swiss Ace – Vibe was to trial this week but has instead gone to the spelling paddock due to shin soreness. He had been coming along well in his work.

Our Ventura will make her Australian debut over 1300m at Newcastle tomorrow. She has drawn barrier 10 of 12 runners and will be ridden by Chad Lever. Although short of her best distance she has been working well and we expect her to be running on strongly over the concluding stages.
Hot Mustard ran another good race for 2nd beaten less than a length at Warwick Farm on Wednesday over 2200m. He was given a good ride by Jason, running on well and just failing to catch the winner who had a good break on the field going in the straight. He will race again at Warwick Farm in a fortnight.
Untamed Diamond’s run at Randwick last Saturday is best forgotten after an appalling ride by apprentice Blaike McDougall. She did extremely well to finish 6th only 3.6 lengths from the winner after being restrained early, entirely against her racing pattern and then being four wide for most of the race. Fortunately she has come through the race well and will head back to Randwick in a fortnight with a change of jockey.
