Starting with news from Australia, owner David Paykel pulled the right rein in sending Killarney Kid to Melbourne when he won stylishly at Flemington last Saturday. Racing from the Peter Moody stable and ridden by Glen Boss he easily won his 2000m race by 1 ¼ lengths. He left the stables with our best wishes and we wish David every success with him in Australia.
Also in Australia our son Jason Collett has been riding in good form. At Rosehill last Saturday he had 8 rides for 3 winners and 4 3rd placings. One of the 3rds was in the Hawkesbury Guineas on Bachman.
He then had a winner at Canterbury on Wednesday and 2 winners yesterday at Gosford.
Jesshanimo won first up over 1150m at Waipa on Wednesday. Ridden beautifully by our apprentice Zinjete Moki, he relished in the heavy 11 track conditions. Congratulations to his very patient owner Dave Whiteman and family!
Mills N Boon also raced at Waipa on Wednesday over 1400m. She drew a wide barrier on the heavy track. She had to work quite hard over the early and middle stages of the race and as a consequence she just weakened over the final stages to run 4th.
Hot Mustard ran a good race for 5th at Kembla Grange in NSW on Saturday. It was his first up run over 1200m, he got back and ran home nicely. He will race again at Kembla Grange on the 28th over 1500m before stepping up to a more suitable staying distance.
Coachline struck unsuitable track conditions in the Rotorua cup and finished well back in the field. He was never happy on the very heavy and holding track. He has had a quiet week.
Raadical Jazz was to race at Waipa however the decision was made to avoid the unsuitable wet track and wait for a better track at Ruakaka on the 20th over 1400m or Ellerslie on the 23rd over 1600m.
Proud Life & Bachelor Brave are also working towards racing over 2100m at Ruakaka on the 20th.
Primrose Hill ran a lovely race for 3rd at her first start at Avondale over 1400m last Friday. She has come through the race well and will race next over 1600m at Te Aroha on the 27th.
Queen of Cool won her 800m trial at Ellerslie yesterday. She was still a little green and will probably trial again at Waipa on the 28th before making her race day debut.
So Wotif after a long layoff, was in need of his 1000m trial. He finished a distant 4th, having a good blow following. He too will trial again at Waipa on the 28th before resuming racing.
Blue Pool Blur also finished 4th in his trial over 1000m, he may race over 1400m at Te Aroha on the 27th.
The Hawk was ridden by our probationer apprentice ‘Gee’ he led up in his trial over 1200m and just ran out of condition over the final stages to finish 2nd. He will step out on race day at Te Aroha on the 27th.
Having his first trial Shantav finished 4th over 1000m, he will trial again at Waipa on the 28th, he will be improved from the outing.
Suad finished midfield in her 1000m trial, she too will be improved by the outing and possibly needs more ground.
Les Silk has continued with pace work and galloping and is coming to hand nicely on the wet tracks.
Due to lack of options over 1600m Our Kismet will now head to Ellerslie on Saturday 23rd over 1400m.
He’s A Bigdeel has worked well this week, it looks like he may also head to Ellerslie on the 23rd.
Ventura has had some solid workouts at ¾ speed and will have her first gallop this time in on Saturday.
Chaprise has finally got over her stone bruise and niggly issues, she will gallop tomorrow and if forward enough she may race at Ellerslie Saturday 23rd over 1400m.
Biggin Hill will gallop tomorrow on the grass before a decision is made to start him at Ruakaka over 1200m on Wednesday 20th.
City Boy, El Escolta & Perfectly Ready – Cataari have all got through plenty of pace work this week.
Yearlings –
Choisir – Folk Music filly and Myboycharlie – Mellow Elle filly have worked at Counties track all this week. They both have very professional attitudes. They will now head for a spell.
Testa Rossa – Taunt Pauline gelding and Domesday – Orpenalla gelding are both working nicely round our home track.
Alamosa – Pinot Grieve filly & Smart Missile – Miss Shamrock filly are up to lunging in the round yard, both fillies are progressing nicely.
Cape Blanco –Beauty Queen colt & Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay gelding completed their breaking in off the property and have worked at Counties track this week.
Currently Spelling – Lady Royale, Fast Learner, Cartell, Untamed Diamond, Selfie & Cinematic.
