Fast Learner is in good order going into the Tui Anniversary Handicap over 1600m at Wellington on Saturday. He has drawn wide at barrier 16 and will be ridden by Leith Innes. The track is currently a dead 4 and we are hoping the forecast showers stay away. His work on Tuesday morning with Selfie was very good.

Our frustrating run of placings continued last weekend with Cartell running 2nd,  once again being beaten by the narrowest of margins at Ellerslie over 1200m and Biggin Hill  running 3rd at Awapuni also over 1200m. We are looking to start both horses again at Matamata on 30th January.

In Australia Hot Mustard ran a good race Nowra on Monday over 1600m, he dropped back in the field and ran home strongly to finish 4th, 2.4 lengths from the winner. He will race again at Moruya on Monday 18th over 2000m. He has drawn barrier 1 and will be ridden by Winona Costin. The track is currently a soft 6 which should suit.

Primrose Hill worked well on Thursday and will gallop tomorrow in preparation for Te Rapa on Wednesday over 2100m.

Our promising 3 year olds, Cinematic and Selfie have trained on well this week.  Selfie will run next in the 3yo listed Karaka Mile at Ellerslie’s twilight meeting on Sunday 24th while Cinematic will run the same night in the special conditions maiden over 1200m.

Untamed Diamond galloped nicely on Tuesday and will gallop again on Saturday in preparation for a trip south to Wellington on Saturday 23rd to race in the 3yo 1200m.

Irish Missile was very keen in her first sprint up at ¾ speed with the Swiss Ace- Princess Carolina gelding on Wednesday. They will both work at speed again next week.

Rip Van Winkle – Lady Pay, Cape Blanco – Beauty Queen & Captain Rio – Pyrate Princess geldings had jump outs through the main gates on the grass on Thursday. All three were well mannered and very professional. The Rip Van Winkle and Captain Rio geldings will continue on to a trial in early February, the Cape Blanco gelding is still growing and maturing and will now have a break in the paddock.

Swissta was shin sore after a gallop on Tuesday and will also head to the spelling paddock for a break.  Queen of Cool, Alamosa – Pinot Grieve filly & Florence Hill have had a quiet week of pace work. Savabeel – Shantaine filly has resumed after a short let up.
